What Would You Do If Someone Claimed Your Blog In MyBlogLog?

Yesterday, I said that I will write about the problem I had with MyBlogLog. It is nothing serious but a topic to be talked about. I started blogging on this blog from August 10th. I thought of adding it to MyBlogLog after one or two day so that in the mean time I can take care of other things. To my surprise, my blog was already claimed by another user. I don’t know the reason behind it. What made me laugh was that the user named it rapidshare.com which has no relation to my blog.

Now I have my blog in my profile. I didn’t know how to approach the MyBlogLog team at first. I mailed them twice and didn’t get any reply. Then I made a post in the forum and got a reply from Michael Martin. Here’s how you can get your blog back if someone else claims it:
If you are a blog owner and you want to claim ownership of your blog that is currently claimed by another, please email customerservice@mybloglog.com to assert your claim. There are two ways to prove that you are the owner of a blog.
1. Email us from your blog’s domain.
2. Write an assertion of your claim on a page on your site and send us the url. This can be removed as soon as we take action on your claim.
I did the first one, emailed them with my mail ID from my blog’s domain. And within few hours I got a reply from them saying:
Because you have sent an email from the domain bloggingtune.com, we can
tell this is your blog. I have removed the Santhoshje authorship and
added you as the author. Thanks.
So now I have my blog safe and secure. If you have any problems like this, blog the customer service with your mail ID from your domain. Now if you have a blogspot blog, then you can follow their second option. Write a post and send them the URL.
You can add me as your friend in MyBlogLog from here and you can join my blog’s community from here. Why do you think people claim other’s blog? have you had your blog claimed by some other person? If not, what would you do if someone claims your blog before you do it?

I can imagine it puts people in quite a stressful situation. On the other hand I can imagine that it gets MBL more users because people want to own their blog to stop this happening?
Glen, yes I agree with you. Just another way to get more users.
Thanks for crediting me again. It’s really nice to be thanked for giving some support!
And I’m glad you’ve posted this article. With MyBlogLog’s poor verification setup, you definitely won’t have been the only one to suffer from this. It’s good that you’re spreading a solution to the problem.
Never happened to me yet….but you never know. Useful info, Thkx.
I don’t rate MyBlogLog much anymore.
There’s been too little change and there’s too much abuse of the Community messaging feature.
High time Yahoo! took matters in hand and brought the whole thing up to scratch…
lol thats funny…i’m glad you got your blog back I wonder why someone would want to claim your blog.
i think mybloglog should be more stricter with such things.
Michael, You are welcome. As you said MyBlogLog has a very bad verification system. BTW, congrats on your guest post for Problogger.
Nizzo, If you are going to start a blog, make sure you claim in the first day.
Wayne, Yes! The messaging service is a poor service which will be used for spamming purpose alone. Good point.
Shaun, hehe. It sounds funny to me too. But when I first saw this I got tensed.
Rony, Their verification system should be changed. They don’t ask for anything while adding a blog.
You are right, their verification system is pretty bad. I too had some issues with my blog url, still not sorted out.
Nirmal, Just mail them using your id on your Domain name. They might respond.
Hope yourproblem gets sorted out soon.
Well fortunately I didn’t have such a problem..I would do the same thing you did.. Contact the MBL people and keep mailing them until they sort it out :p
dEEPAK, hehe
I think that’s why it did not happen to you.
that’s funny, what he will do by claiming someone else blog. Glad that you sorted out the issue
Ram, that’s what I’m also thinking. How is that guy going to profit from claiming my blog? Crazy.
i posted your article to digg.com but i am sorry i did not work.i tried my best.
Rony, Thanks for submitting it to Digg. I saw it too. It got 12 Diggs. Thanks for your hard work in trying to get it popular.
They should do something about this and improve the verification process.
Great that you posted about this. Useful info!
Shankar, Glad you liked it.
Thats a good post buddy . I think they should definitely do something about it in there verification process.
Madhur, I never liked their verification process. I hope they will change. Thanks for your comment.
This happened to a lot of people!
Raj, but not all have blogged about it.
So I did it.
