Auto follow is stuck on my twitter account
I believe I set it up with SocialOomph when it was tweet later. It shows me set at not autofollowing.
What can I do to stop the auto follow?

I would love to know!
Thank you so much!

Regina,

Completely agree with you. There are just too many bots these days that you simply cannot have autofollow on. It takes only a few seconds to review a twitter account before adding them.

Thanks for the comment.

I don't use autofollow for several reasons. First of all, there has been an increase in pornographic posts along the lines of "Check out my X-rated pix." Second, I don't think it is useful to follow tons of people because there is no way to keep up with all of them. So I follow people who are in the health and wellness field like myself, as well as those who are in marketing or who tweet about marketing and business topics. If someone is in a field that is not related to those topics, I generally don't follow them. It's nothing personal, it's just the most efficient way for me to use Twitter.

Nick,

I agree. People will face spam no matter what. But the thing is, there are so many twitter bots these days which are set to follow people based on a keyword. When you follow these bots, your twitter timeline will be full of spam messages.

I'd be happy to follow people one by one instead of unfollowing all the bots one by one since there are many bots in twitter these days.

On follow services, I have used them in a couple of instances and they do seem to work pretty nice. But we have to be careful when we are using it for the main account. It will not take a second out account to be banned. As far as I know, my account was not banned for using it once before.

Thanks for making a good and informational comment. Hope to see you often here.

Well I can see you point, but people can spam you no matter how you ran across them. I think that it takes only a second to unfollow a person so if you can add a group based on what they are tweeting on, it is much easier to unfollow down the road.

Secondly I have never had an account banned from using the popular follow services. Just the other day, I made a new twitter account and added "3" people to follow and the account was removed. Well who knows why, but I for one will be sticking with auto follow until twitter nix's it.

mdy says
Auto-follow isn't enabled by default. Twitter users have to request it via the Twitter help form. If you believe Twitter has turned auto-follow on for your account, you can use the same form to request that they disable it.

But since your account is auto-following and you haven't asked Twitter to enable auto-follow, I can only guess that it's a third-party service that's doing this.

For example, if you use SocialToo.com, it will automatically follow back anyone who follows you on Twitter as long as they're not on your Socialtoo blacklist.

Similarly, the TweetLater.com service can auto-follow anyone who follows you if your settings ask it to do so.

If you can't remember all the third-party services you've tried, but would like to be sure that no third-party app can auto-follow on your behalf, I suggest changing your Twitter password.
